GJA welcomes first Binks Trust Human Rights Scholar

The Global Justice Academy awarded the first-ever Binks Trust Scholarship on its LLM in Human Rights programme to Meng-Ting Hsieh this month.

Meng-Ting Hsieh, a recent graduate from National Chengchi University in Taiwan with a major in Public Administration and a minor in Diplomacy, says:

“I believe behind every human rights violation, there is a story waiting to be told. I am eager to learn more about human rights – specifically when it comes to raising public awareness on certain issues. I look forward to presenting what I know to the world, so as to help the voiceless seek justice.”

The Human Rights LLM has a strong conflict dimension, with courses on how to deal with the past in countries emerging from conflict (Transitional Justice) and how human rights protections can assist processes of conflict resolution (Human Rights and Conflict Resolution). This enables graduates to make a tangible impact on conflict resolution in their future roles either in their home countries or others.

Notes:

  1. The new scholarships, provided by the Global Justice Academy with thanks to funding from the Binks Trust, for the LLM in Human Rights began with the 2017/2018 intake of students. Our aspiration is to promote equal educational access and opportunity while enhancing international diversity. The scholarship is designed to advantage those applicants who would otherwise be unable to take up a place of study at Edinburgh.
  2. Applications for scholarships on the 2018/2019 LLM in Human Rights programme will open in due course. Further detail on eligibility criteria and award amounts for this scholarship are available to read here.
