Philippe Sands QC to present prestigious human rights lecture

The Global Justice Academy is delighted to announce that Philippe Sands QC will present the 2018 Ruth Adler Lecture in Human Rights.

Philippe Sands QC, a renowned specialist in international law and Professor of Law at University College London, will present ‘East-West Street and the Making of Modern Human Rights’, which follows from his award-winning book titled East West Street: On the Origins of Genocide and Crimes against Humanity that won the Baillie Gifford Prize in 2016.

The Global Justice Academy is further delighted that James Wolffe QC, Lord Advocate, will form the response to the lecture, which will add a super contribution to this exciting evening with a leading human rights lawyer.


1.  The lecture will take place in Edinburgh on March 14th 5.30-7pm and will be followed by a wine reception. Full details on this event will follow in due course.

2.  Professor Sands is a regular contributor commentator on the BBC and CNN and writes frequently for leading newspapers. As a practicing barrister, he has extensive experience litigating cases before the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes and the European Court of Justice.
